APS Supports Sofab Inks in Demonstrating High-Stability Fullerene-Free Perovskite Modules

Alpha Precision Systems (APS) is pleased to highlight the latest results from Sofab Inks demonstrating the potential of Tinfab, a tin-oxide nanoparticle electron transport layer ink for perovskite solar modules.

In collaboration with Sofab Inks, APS supported the fabrication and testing of 30 × 30 cm p-i-n perovskite solar modules. Under 85°C/85% relative humidity damp-heat conditions, the Tinfab-based modules retained significantly more of their initial efficiency than fullerene-based C60 reference modules.

After 504 hours of testing, one Tinfab module retained 87.0% of its initial efficiency, compared with 74.4% for the APS fullerene-based reference module. In a second comparison, Tinfab modules retained 96.16% and 89.85%, while the C60 control retained 75.65%.

The results also indicated improved mechanical robustness. Fracture-energy testing at Arizona State University showed that the Tinfab/ALD structure achieved approximately 2.8 J/m², compared with approximately 0.35 J/m² for the C60 structure.

This collaboration demonstrates APS’s ability to support perovskite development from material evaluation through module fabrication and reliability testing. APS provides slot-die coating systems, vacuum-drying systems, process-integration support, and turnkey solutions for thin-film manufacturing. APS also offers practical module prototyping services for customers and technology partners.

By combining advanced coating equipment with hands-on module manufacturing experience, APS continues to support the scale-up of high-performance and durable perovskite solar technologies.
